Political Science Advising
All UMBC students are required to meet with an advisor to register for classes in the upcoming semester (except for Winter and Summer semesters). Students must receive advising clearance to register for classes regardless of assigned registration date. We strongly recommend students receive advising clearance prior to their assigned registration date.
Students with fewer than 60 credit hours completed
Political Science students with fewer than 60 credit hours or who have not yet achieved Junior status will receive advising through the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. If you fall into this category and are in need of advising, please contact James Hamilton at jamham@umbc.edu.
Students with greater than 60 credit hours completed
Political Science students are assigned a Faculty Mentor by the Advising Coordinator when they have earned 60 credits or have received Junior Status. If you have not been assigned to a Political Science department Faculty Mentor, please fill out this Mentor Request Form.
Students should visit their Faculty Mentor every semester prior to finalizing their schedules. This process assures a timely graduation and grants the student authorization to register.
Every student is assigned a registration date based on the number of earned credits they have (credits in progress do not count toward this total). This registration date is the earliest time a student can register for the next semester. If you are unsure of your registration date you can check HERE
