FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

UMBC Undergraduate Research Award, $1,500

  • January 3, 2025: Applications open for 2025-26 URA Scholars
  • April 9, 2025: URCAD XXVIII
  • May 2, 2025: The URA application deadline
  • May 31, 2025: Final reports due for 2024-25 URA Scholars
  • June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026: URA research period for new Scholars

UMBC Entrepreneur Award, $1,500 (Award period: June, 2024-May, 2025. Application Deadline: May 3, 2024)

UMBC Travel Fund, $500 (or $750 if matched by a Department or other source)

  • Undergraduate Presentation Grants (formerly known as “Travel Awards”) provide students with up to $500 to cover the costs of presenting their scholarly/creative work at a conference/artistic event. Students must be accepted to present at the time of application. To apply, please complete these forms and include your conference acceptance letter and an unofficial copy of your transcript.

Undergraduate Students Small Research Grants 

  • The Center for Social Science Scholarship Small Research Grants for UMBC undergraduate students are intended to provide crucial support for research, presentation, and travel for research purposes.
  • An individual undergraduate student may receive a maximum of $250 per award.

UMBC Supplement for Undergraduate Research Experiences (SURE)

    • Supports the inclusion of undergraduates in faculty-led research during their first four semesters at UMBC (including transfer students).
    • In recent years, this application was combined with the Federal Work Study (FWS) program. Due to the FWS migratation to Handshake, the SURE application form is separate from the FWS program process this year. Faculty members are still encouraged to use FWS as a mechanism to recruit and fund FWS-eligible students.
    • Award Size: up to $1,500
    • Deadline for SURE: September 23, 2024

Student Research Assistance for Faculty Research and Creative Achievement (RCA)

  • This fund supports the inclusion of UMBC graduate and undergraduate students in faculty-led research and creative achievement.
  • Award Size: between $1,500 to $2,000
  • Deadlines: Fall (September 30); Spring (March 1)

 

PRESENTING YOUR RESEARCH

UMBC Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day – URCAD (Submission deadline usually in February, Event at UMBC in April)

Pi Sigma Alpha Undergraduate Research Conference (Submission deadline usually in November,  Event in Washington D.C. in mid-February; if interested please let Dr. Forestiere (forestie@umbc.edu) know.
